Minneapolis based Ben Kyle is the Belfast born songwriter and architect behind the critically acclaimed eponymous album BEN KYLE (La Traviata Records) featuring the award-winning songs Mercy and Don't Settle. American Songwriter named the song Mercy "Perfect" and the album prompted the Huffington Post to dub Kyle "A Sleeping Giant."
Ben has written - "I'm mostly interested in soul and feel, in beauty and being honest about the way we feel about things. I want to make songs that are beautiful and say something true - that remind us who we are, that remind us of our true self and heart, and call us into a beautiful and generous life from that place."
Emigrating to Minnesota from Northern Ireland with his family as a teen, Kyle synthesized the roots music he absorbed in midwestern America with his Irish folk upbringing and went on to release 5 heralded albums as the singer-songwriter and frontman behind the Irish-Americana critical darlings Romantica. Paste Magazine named Romantica's 2007 release America "One of the Best Albums of 2007" but No Depression declared that Shadowlands (2016) was "Undeniably their best."
The winner of 10 International Songwriting Competition awards in "The songwriting competition to take note of" (according to the New York Times), Ben has worked with Ryan Adams (The Dark feat. Ryan Adams) Lucinda Williams, Alejandro Escovedo, Sara Watkins and Dan Wilson (Adele) among others. In 2011 he collaborated with Austin, Texas roots sweetheart Carrie Rodriguez, on the duets album We Still Love Our Country, a well-received collection of country standards and sprightly originals that enjoyed success on the Americana Radio Charts and called for the duet to tour extensively in Europe and the UK.
In early 2016 Ben fell ill with an acute presentation of Lyme Disease (read more) that provoked significant neuro-inflammation and robbed him of much life, memory and basic cognition. Coming back from the brink after two difficult years and a deep healing journey, Ben is returning to the studio, renewed and restored to record a brand new solo album born through this experience and titled Silvertone.
